Total Cost of Ownership and Open Source Software: A Research paper
A research paper by Kathryn Moyle. This paper was prepared as a result of research conducted by the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) (SA) in early 2004. The research was supported with funding from the MCEETYA National Fund for Educational Research (NFER). The project was provided with support and advice by a national Steering Committee comprising a sub-committee of the MCEETYA ICT in Schools Taskforce and chaired by Mr Ross Treadwell (DECS SA).
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the shared understandings about the respective ICT costs that jurisdictions and schools invest in order to provide students, teachers and school communities with access to the necessary ICT infrastructure to support learning and to enable connectivity between people and computers.
